My latest Global Golf Post column appeared yesterday. I wrote about Graham DeLaet’s impressive season, his terrific ball striking, and the fact that, at the moment, one club — his putter — seems to be keeping him from emerging as a star on tour. He’s still just outside the Top 100 in the world, but that seems likely to change.
DeLaet is now first in greens in regulation — an impressive indication of his ability to hit his irons exceptionally well — and made nearly as much money as he did in all of last year.
The one thing that surprised me was that DeLaet didn’t try to qualify for the U.S. Open yesterday. An interesting decision considering how well he’s played of late, though I know he’s careful not to overtax his surgically repaired back.

Graham made a mistake by not trying to qualify. Probably even he realizes it now. You take your chances when they come along. He did not do that. I hope he does not pay too dearly for that, and I hope that he will take the next chance that comes along.
