Recently it has looked like the next European Ryder Cup Captain would be from Ireland, whereas a month ago it was going to be Colin Montgomery again. Monty is qualified to face Tom Watson, he lives on abuse and is quite an intelligent chap. Europe has overlooked Sandy Lyle as the USA seems to shun Larry Nelson every two years. I’d love to see a Lyle/Nelson moment, it might bring the Ryder Cup back to it’s traditions. Yesterday Monty was being asked about the possible 2014 Captain: “There are certain people who are meant to be in charge of a team and some who are not”. Perfectly brilliant!
