Calgary resident seeking spot on the Senior PGA Tour, after winning the SUPERBOWL as QB of WASHINGTON REDSKINS
MARK RYPIEN is at CHAMPIONS TOUR qualifying school, hoping to get his PGA card to play the Seniors Tour. I met Mark when he was playing on the CPT (Celebrity PLayers Tour) event in Jamaica. We hosted the event for 3 years and the celebs were all very keen golfers, sometimes better than their “amateur” partners, certainly great hosts. Unlike most regular PGA pro-ams, the celebs took their job very seriously, they entertained their partners who were paying the way.
GRANT FUHR was one of the players, he also became a golf pro and was one stroke from getting his Canadian Tour card. We played a few games and Grant could really golf his ball, distance was no problem, putting was a challenge sometimes. Most of the hockey players were good golfers, a few of the baseball players were OK, most of the basketball players couldn’t play (MICHAEL JORDAN certainly tried, but 82 isn’t a good pro score), baseball celebs could hit the ball far, but in golf foul balls cost strokes as we have to play them. Football QBs usually were good players.
All the best to Mark!
Sadly, one player is no longer with us – does anyone know which of the celebs above has passed on? Toronto Blue Jay pitcher. Grant Fuhr, third from left, finished second to a football quarterback, Billy Joe Somebody.
I believe that QB was Billy Joe Tolliver.
exactly Jeff, it was Billy Joe Tollliver. But who was the Blue Jay pitcher? super guy, played left handed, low handicap, and passed away far too soon!
