George Knudson – Master Ball Striker

George KnudsonFound this wonderful Youtube video on legendary Canadian golfer George Knudson and thought it would be great to share.

Has some nice interviews with Hale Irwin, Lee Trevino (among others) talking about the prolific ball striking of Knudson as well as some great swing sequences. He was definitely one of a kind.

Where does he rank among golf greatest ball strikers? Feel free to add your thoughts on George Knudson in the comments below.

Enjoy, and hat tip to @GolfAus

  • great video. I had the honour of participating in some group golf lessons when I was a teen given by George. Most of us were in awe in his presence. But he always made us feel comfortable, a real gentlemen. One time, to prove his concept that the “ball gets in the way of the swing”, he blind folded himself and proceeded to hit about 15-20, 3-irons. To our amazement, most of the golf balls ended in the same 10 foot circle way down the range. He was truly a ball striking machine.

  • What a wonderful Video Of this Great Canadian Golfer!!
So ironic since this week I spoke to a golf pro about a story Mr Knudson told me about Mr Hogan.

Thank you Jeff for sharing this video ,what a Treasure!

  • He was a very good golfer who took from Ben Hogans swing and developed the rest of his swing his self. I have a DVD of him playing Stan Leanard in the early 1960s on Shells Wondeful? World of Golf. Great match.

  • thanks for the link Jeff, George was a definite GREAT ball striker!! second only to MOE NORMAN as a ball striker, second to nobody as a player! With today’s “training regime” George would have become #1.
