Perched high above the quaint town of Baddeck, Nova Scotia on Cape Breton Island is the acclaimed Bell Bay Golf Club. We paid a visit last week as part of our tour of the island and we treated to a wonderful mix of fine weather (finally), awesome views of the Bras d’Or lake below and some fine golf on the challenging Thomas McBroom design.
Bell Bay burst on the scene in 1998 being named ‘Best New Course in Canada’ after its’ opening by Golf Digest. It continues to get rave reviews with a challening layout that is always in great condition. In particular the final four holes, including the signature par-3 17th hole stand out and provided a memorable conclusion to our round.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention CPGA pro Ted Stonehouse and his staff who have created one of the strongest junior golf programs in the country at Bell Bay. Truly impressive.
Hope you enjoy our photo tour of Bell Bay, a must play on any visit to Cape Breton Island.

[…] Bell Bay – Located on the western side of the magnificent Bras d’Or Lake, overlooking Alexander Graham Bell’s retirement home and where the first plane flight (in the British Empire) occurred, the course is challenging, playable, forgiving and always in excellent condition. The town of Baddeck where it is located is a bit of a summer playground with a nice selection of restaurants and shops. If you are a traveler that prefers to unpack once and drive out to the various golf courses, Baddeck is a terrific option as everything is 60 – 90 minutes drive. […]
