My latest Sympatico column went live yesterday. Here’s a taste:
By the numbers Mike Weir shouldn’t have a lot of confidence heading into this week’s U.S. Open.
He’s struggled with his driver all year, finding fairways too infrequently to have any degree of success.
But Canada’s top golfer enters this week pleased with changes he’s made to his game. Those alterations stem from five days spent pounding golf balls under the watchful guidance of his coach, Mike Wilson.
“It was technique-based and I know have some clarity on what I was doing,” says Weir late last week from his home in Utah. “The challenge was that I haven’t had time to see Mike away from the course. We’re just trying to piece something together to get ready to play. We don’t have the days to put in a row to get it together.”
