David Hearn of Brantford, Ontario entered the final round of the Nationwide Tour’s Fresh Express Classic with the lead on Sunday, but could hold on. Hearn finished second to eventual winner Brian Chappell who overtook Hearn on the back 9 of the TPC Stonebrae course.
Canadians finished 2-3 in the event as Jon Mills finished third after a final round 68.This was his best result on the Nationwide since spending 2008 on the PGA Tour.
For Hearn, now a veteran on the junior circuit, this was his best result in more than 5 years and will go a long way in accumulating the dollars necessary to make the big tour.
Notably, former hall of fame 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice was tournament host and also competed on a sponsors exemption. He held his own and finished second to last with rounds of 83-76.
About time that David Hearn breaks through and wins something. He’s too good not to.
