Callaway Introduces the X-22 Irons

Yesterday, Callaway announced the launch of the next generation of its legendary X-Series of irons “ the X-22, the X-22 Tour and the X-forged irons.

The X-22 irons feature a 10 per cent higher Moment of Inertia (MOI) for even less twisting on off-centre hits than its predecessor through the use of new precision notch weighting.

In addition, the X-22`s lower centre of gravity produces more controlled and powerful launch conditions, while turf interaction and VFT® (Variable Face Thickness) technology all add up to more greens in regulation.

There is a more highly refined sole design, tested to deliver consistently solid contact, while the X-22`s slightly thinner topline provides a sleeker look at address. In addition, Callaway Golf`s 360-degree undercut channel increases the face`s effective hitting area, so even miss-hits feel solid.

Callaway Golf has done extensive research into how shaft weight, flex, flex point and torque influence the feeling of a pure golf shot. Whether it`s steel or graphite, men`s or women`s, each shaft design is fine-tuned to match the mass properties of the club head to produce superior feel “ an element critical to good golf, yet hard to define.

Å“Very few products consistently satisfy such a wide spectrum of the market as our X-Series irons, said Jeff Colton, Callaway Golf`s Senior Vice President of Research and Development. Å“Proven performance from mid-to-high handicappers to veteran pros like Rocco Mediate has propelled our X-Series irons to dynasty status in the golf industry, and we believe the X-22s are our best yet.

As in the X-22`s, the X-22 Tour series also feature Callaway`s new notch weighting technology for higher MOI as well as VFT Technology and the 360-degree undercut channel. With the thinnest topline possible, the X-22 Tours also have a shorter blade length and a centre of gravity that has been moved lower and more in line with the centre of the face. The clubs also boast sole width progression, which based on each iron`s length and loft, provide better turf interaction through the entire set.

The 2009 X-Forged irons are designed to provide elite level performance for highly skilled golfers. Forged from 1020 carbon steel with tour-inspired head styling, the X-Forged provides unmatched feel and responsive feedback at impact. Double notch weighting adds more weight to shorter irons and less to longer irons for strong and penetrating flight trajectories throughout the set.

Å“The 2009 golf season will see players have an abundant choice of cutting-edge technology irons from Callaway Golf ensuring that they will be able to find the perfect irons suited to their game, says Scott Reid, Managing Director Callaway Golf Canada. Å“With the launch of the next generation of our popular X-Series of irons, Callaway Golf is continuing its tradition of excellence.

The X-22 iron will be available in Canada today, October 15, with the tour and forged models January 15, 2009.
