I’m heading to Ingonish, NS, next week to participate in a symposium on the life and work of Stanley Thompson alongside some of the game’s most distinguished Canadian commentators, including Globe columnist Lorne Rubenstein, architect Ian Andrew, pundit/designer Jeff Mingay, and historian Ken Donovan.
It should involve interesting discussion at one of my favourite golfing locations in the world — the north end of Cape Breton. Doesn’t hurt that I’ll get to hit the ball around Highlands a couple of times as well!
The program is being put on as part of the designation of Stanley Thompson as a person of historic significance — likely the first step to trying to have Highlands named as a Canadian historic site.
Anyone with any questions can send me a note or add a comment.
thompson was great, don’t get me wrong.. but do we as canadians romanticize too much about ST? and by extension, the old dead guys in general?
The short answer is no.
It is good to celebrate great Canadian artists.
