My latest National Post column is now online.
Here’s a taste:
When Tiger Woods wants to start a family, he plans the birth so it won’t cause him to miss a major championship.
Not so for Annika Sorenstam.
Unable to convince herself she could combine motherhood with playing golf at the highest level, Sorenstam announced Tuesday that she is walking away from a glorious career.
Not that this should have caught anyone by surprise. Last year, while playing at a charity function at Magna Golf Club in Aurora, Ont., Sorenstam said it was unlikely she could continue to play the game to her expectations and have a family.
“It would be life-changing anyway, but for a professional golfer it is truly something that would change what I do,” she said. “I know the clock is ticking. It’s true, you can’t deny it.”
