Well, that might be wishful thinking, but I’m hoping we’re only a month away from playing. At most, I suspect the end of April will see us back on the fairways.
With that in mind, I thought I’d bring G4G readers up to speed on our plans.
The Weekend Hacker, our anonymous course reviewer, will be returning to the fairways again this year. The concept of having a green fee paying golfer hit the links and give readers an honest take on courses in Ontario was well received.
In full disclosure, the Hacker is actually two gentlemen — one located in Southern Ontario and one east of Toronto. We’d like to add a third in the Ottawa area. If you’d be interested in filing a half dozen Ottawa area reviews in exchange for free rounds, drop me a note at email@example.com.
Either way, the Hacker will be back for the full season starting in May.
James McCarten, Ontgolf’s new equipment guru, continues to file to our Gear Head section despite currently being off on assignment with the Canadian Press in Afghanistan. He’ll be back at the start of May as golf season kicks off. In the meantime, I’ll fill in. Reviews on new gear are already up on the site, but expect regular equipment reviews from James, Fairway Stevie, and myself over the summer.
Once a month I’m going to hold a contest that will see one G4G reader head out as my guest to play a cool Ontario course. I think it’ll be an interesting way of getting to know my readers better, and will give G4G regulars an interesting opportunity. I expect to take them out to see some neat courses from around the Toronto area. The first contest will start the first week of May. Keep your eyes open.
Jeff Lancaster, the brains behind Ontgolf.ca, has been quietly launching new golf-oriented sites. Though we expect a full facelift in coming months, the Ontgolf.ca family now includes golf-courses.ca and our sister course, golfvideo.ca.
Expect a lot more video from Ontgolf.ca in coming months, kick started by Fairway Stevie’s look at the Toronto Golf Show, that was posted today.
Lastly, my latest book, Going for the Green: On the Links with Canada’s Business and Political Elite, will hit shelves at the end of April. I’ll kick it off with a giveaway (maybe to coincide with the golf round prize — now there’s a thought!) and will probably be making some promotional appearances along the way. The foreward was written by Bob Weeks and I’m really proud of how it turned out.
