US OPEN and Pablo Martin

Let me be the 9,999th person to complain about the USGA this week. Not about the greens or anything relevant, about the pairings! Oakmont should be spectacular golf – hope NBC has HD cameras. Like to see Johnny clearly when he “says the truth”.

How did they put the 7:55 pairing together? Jose Maria Olzabal; Sergio Garcia and Pablo Martin all in one group, three Spanish players. Usually I can find a pattern, not this one. It’ll sound like a group of Doral members. But worthy of watching!

Pablo Paul Martin will become the new face of Spanish golf, he will become the next Seve, he’s already the next Sergio. I watched him play in the PGA Tour Mayacoba Open in February while he was a professional amateur “attending” Oklahoma on scholarship. Two weeks later he won a european Tour event (study week?). Now he’s turned real professional and signed a big deal with Nike. Let’s hope he can avoid agents and gurus, he’s got game, has already won more tournaments than Michelle Wie has entered.

Go Monty! and Jon Mills and Mike Weir and Adam Spiers and Stephen Ames. Only the final two pairings are all americans, every other group has a mixture of nationalities! And the 7:55 all espanish group.
