TITLEIST SEEKS TO ‘RESHAPE YOUR GAME’ WITH LAUNCH OF TWO NEW DRIVERS
907D1: High MOI for Long Distance with Forgiveness
907D2: Enhanced MOI for Long Distance with Playability
Fairhaven, MA (March 8, 2007) “ Celebrating a decade of designing and producing high performance drivers for the world’s most discerning golfers, Titleist introduces its most technologically advanced offerings yet with the launch of the highly-anticipated 907D1 and 907D2 models. Titleist seeks to ‘reshape’ golfers’ games with the 460cc limit geometry, high MOI triangular design of the 907D1, and the advanced traditional geometry, enhanced MOI of the 907D2.
“Titleist golf clubs are designed for the serious golfer, and with the new 907D1 and 907D2 we are taking the #1 460cc driver brand on the PGA Tour to the next level via high and enhanced MOI,” said Steve Pelisek, Vice President, Golf Club Sales, Titleist. “With the combination of the continuing evolution of high MOI driver technology that is available and in play at the game’s highest level and the expert fitting from our Titleist FittingWorks partners, we can optimize the driving performance of any serious golfer.”
The 907 drivers are designed with all the core performance deliverables that have made Titleist the driver choice of Tour players, PGA club professionals, top amateurs and serious golfers at every level of competitive golf. The highest inertia Titleist driver ever, the 907D1 offers increased distance with forgiveness, producing a straighter ball flight. The 907D2 provides enhanced MOI for increased distance with workability, allowing the better player the ability to produce a draw or fade. Another primary difference is in the appearance. The 907D1 is a market forward, limit geometry, triangle shape, while the 907D2 is a traditional round profile. The internal construction is similar and both drivers provide a large maximum ball speed area for increased ball speed across the face. A complete menu of loft and shaft options is available through Titleist Custom to meet and exceed the requirements of all serious golfers.
“We strive to provide products that make better players better, and in terms of performance, the new 907 drivers are our most advanced drivers yet,” said Scott Burnett, Vice President, Titleist Golf Club Research and Development. “Players will benefit from the advanced design, engineering and construction technology we used to create the higher MOI, while delivering on the combination of looks, feel and ball flight that better players demand. In fact, the 5,000+ inertia value of the 907D1 is as high as any titanium driver currently in the marketplace.”
Like all high performance Titleist-branded golf clubs, the new 907D1 and 907D2 drivers were thoroughly machine and player tested at Titleist’s state-of-the art Oceanside Test Facility and successfully seeded and performance validated with the world’s most discerning and influential golfers, those across the worldwide professional tours and with PGA Club Professionals. It is in these venues that the new driver already has begun to weave an impressive story of success and momentum, and continue Titleist’s reign as the #1 460cc driver on the PGA Tour.
The new 907D2, which has been the more popular choice to date among Tour players, was played to a fast start as the driver choice of the winner of the PGA European Tour’s South African Airways Open in December, the first week he put it into play. On the U.S. PGA Tour, the 907D2 was played by the runner-up at the season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship, who also finished 7th at the Sony Open in Hawaii the following week. In addition, the 907D2 is also being played with success by Adam Scott, Ben Crane, Arron Oberholser, Brett Quigley, Ben Curtis, Jason Bohn, Brad Faxon, Eric Axley, Bill Haas, Robert Gamez, Daisuke Maruyama and rookies Andrew Buckle and Johnson Wagner among others. Dudley Hart posted a pair of Top 25 finishes at the FBR Open and Buick Invitational playing the 907D2 after finishing T8 at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic playing the 907D1. Jason Dufner started his season with a T13 at the Sony Open in Hawaii playing the triangular-shaped 907D1.
Both the Titleist 907D1 and 907D2 drivers incorporate a multi-material design that utilizes a cast 6-4 titanium body, a high speed beta titanium face insert, and a CNC machined hosel. The cast body utilizes thin crown walls to optimize weight distribution. In addition, the crown and hosel shapes have been designed to be more weight efficient. The face insert is tapered from top to bottom, making it stiffer down low which provides for higher launch and lower spin. The 6061 T6 hosel is mechanically fixed into the crown, saving weight internally.
TITLEIST 907D1: HIGH MOI FOR LONG DISTANCE WITH FORGIVENESS
High Moment of Inertia design provides for long distance with increased forgiveness on off-center hits.
460cc Maximum Triangular Geometry: Triangular geometry is more efficient and achieves maximum USGA and R&A limit geometry. Increased MOI heel-toe and high-low for exceptional forgiveness and increased distance on off-center impacts.
Large Maximum Ball Speed Area: Large maximum ball speed area for increased ball speed across the face.
Multi-Material Design: Constructed with a lightweight 6061 T6 milled aluminum hosel, high speed SP700 beta titanium alloy face insert and precision cast 6-4 titanium body.
Tapered Face Insert: Tapered thickness face insert is thinner at the top to promote high launch and low spin for optimum launch conditions and maximum ball speed.
Low Mass Crown and Hosel: Low mass crown and hosel optimize the mass distribution to lower the CG for solid feel and better energy transfer. Sculpted sides increase the sole stiffness for more efficient energy transfer.
Symmetric Face Design: Symmetric face design increases the face area and combined with the square face angle provide confidence at address.
Aesthetics: Gloss black paint finish with textured side skirt and “foggy mirror” polished sole provide outstanding cosmetics.
Lofts/Stock Shafts: Available in lofts of 7.5, 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5 in right hand and 8.5, 9.5 and 10.5 in left hand. Standard shaft length is 45″. Stock shafts include the Graphite Design YS-6+ (64g), Titleist Spec Grid 67 (67g) and Aldila VS Proto 65 (69g). Stock grip is the Titleist Tour Velvet Rubber Round grip with the logo under. A comprehensive list of additional shafts and grips are available through Titleist Custom Clubs.
TITLEIST 907D2: ENHANCED MOI for LONG DISTANCE WITH WORKABILITY
Increased moment-of-inertia design provides for long distance with shot control.
Advanced Geometry: 460cc advanced traditional geometry driver with enhanced moment of inerta for increased distance with workability and shot control.
Multi-Material Design: Multi-material design with a lightweight 6061 T6 hosel, high speed titanium alloy face insert and precision cast body.
Tapered Face Insert: Tapered Face Insert is thinner at the top to promote high launch and lower spin for optimum launch conditions and maximum ball speed.
Low Mass Crown and Hosel: Low Mass Crown and Hosel optimize the weight distribution and lower the CG for solid feel and better energy transfer.
Symmetric Face: Symmetric face profile with visually improved scorelines and crown shape provide great looks in the playing position.
Aesthetics: Gloss black paint finish, textured side skirt and “foggy mirror” polished sole provide outstanding cosmetics.
