No more International — "effective immediately"

This just came down from the PGA Tour. Does it mean the Canadian Open can move up a month? I mean that facetiously, of course. Maybe the tour will just take a week off of promoting the FedEx Cup.

MEDIA ADVISORY “ THE INTERNATIONAL

PLEASE JOIN PGA TOUR COMMISSIONER TIM FINCHEM AND JACK A. VICKERS FOR A PRESS CONFERENCE REGARDING THE INTERNATIONAL.

MR. FINCHEM AND MR. VICKERS WILL ADDRESS THE FACT THAT THE INTERNATIONAL, STAGED AT CASTLE PINES GOLF CLUB SINCE 1986, WILL NO LONGER REMAIN AS PART OF THE PGA TOUR SCHEDULE, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.

  • Jack Vickers is like what? 101 years old?

It goes to show that even if you are in the twilight of your age, you still can stand up for yourself.

Unless Tiger wins more than 2 majors, Mr. Vickers is my golfer of the year for 2007.

Looks like Finchem & Co. was squeezing the golden goose to hard that the goose decided to call it quit. I am sure F&C will go to their ugly ducklings, i.e. those post FedEx Cup second-tier tourneys and try to masquerade them as goose.

  • If the Canadian Open had a sponsor, though, maybe it would be a possibility, or is a real stretch? I had always thought that a date around Canada Day would be great and that slot is a lot better than where it is now. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Bob Weeks had a recent interview with Kevin Thistle from Angus Glen and of course he (Kevin) is very positive and upbeat about the event this year – hope others can feel the same.
