Alan McLean — ahead of Tiger in China

My friend and occasional playing partner, London, Ont.’s Alan McLean, is playing in China this week as part of the HSBC [photopress:alanmclean_1.gif,full,alignright]Champions tournament. It sports a big purse — $1 million to the winner — and names like Luke Donald, Tiger Woods, Retief Goosen and others.

Anyway, I was pleased to check the leaderboard this morning and see that Alan’s 1-under puts him in 18th place and one shot ahead of Mr. Woods.

Needless to say, this is an important stretch for Alan. His club, River Bend, raised the money to send him to Q-School and he cruised through the first round. From there he went to Dallas to see the course for the second stage, flew back to London to see his wife and daughter, and then jetted to China for the HSBC. Then back to London for a day or two and off to Dallas for second stage.

Hopefully a strong week in China propels him through the second stage at Q-School.
