More best (public) golf holes in Canada

Reader “Barry” has some fine suggestions as part of my rebuttal to Ian Cruickshank’s piece in Score Golf. Ian’s suggestions include: 16th at Cataraqui, 15th at St. George’s, 9th at Toronto, all of which are great golf holes at private clubs. Stanley Thompson aficionado has a fine suggestion and says Cruickshank should have included the 8th at Uplands, a 232-yard par three monster that has long been regarded as among the best holes in Canada.[photopress:uplands1.jpg,full,alignright]

As for my thoughts, how about the 18th at Thomas McBroom’s Firerock in London, Ont., a majestic downhill par four made tough by the uphill approach shot to a steeply canted green. Great stuff.

Any other thoughts? Bring’em on and I’ll post them as they come to me.

  • What? No plug for Eagle’s Nest?
How about #3 at Westwood Plateau G&CC or #9 at Big Sky G&CC or #14 at Furry Creek.

  • I would place a vote for number 11 at King’s Forest in Hamilton.

Also number 6 at Bigwin Island.
