OntGolf.ca's Big Move

OntGolf.ca’s Big Move

By Robert Thompson  |   May 22, 2010

Later next week, we’ll be announcing significant changes to OntGolf.ca. In fact, it won’t be OntGolf.ca at all! I joined OntGolf.ca with my partner in the venture, Jeff Lancaster of Elevation Media, in March 2006, moving G4G over from blogspot. Since that point, I’ve posted 1,865 items on G4G, and had almost 6,000 comments. The site ... Full Story »

Late for the Party

By Robert Thompson  |   January 25, 2010

Im always intrigued at what brings Old World media to the web. I say that noting the G4G blog started six years ago “ and that Ive been writing for the Web, either at PGATour.com, SCOREGolf.com or at G4G since 1998. I occasionally get asked how I became a blogger. Generally I was exceptionally skeptical ... Full Story »

Weir on Wedges, Woods and IMG Exits

By Robert Thompson  |   January 15, 2010

Mike Weir’s website was updated yesterday with comments from the golfer (who will talk to the media today at a little past noon). Anyway, perhaps not surprisingly he weighs in on l’affaire Tiger, and doesn’t add much. Then again, I wouldn’t expect Weir to delve too deep into the situation — it isn’t his style: ... Full Story »

By Robert Thompson  |   January 11, 2010

Brad Pelletier, the managing director of IMG Sports in Canada, and the man behind the recent business dealings of Mike Weir, is departing the company. He told staff today about this resignation. Pelletier, 43, has been with IMG for 13 years, having previously worked in the golf business in BC, including the launch of Nicklaus ... Full Story »

Toronto Golf Club: When is it a Restoration and When is it Something Else Pt. II

By Robert Thompson  |   January 4, 2010

Earlier this year I reported on the “restoration” that Martin Hawtree was undertaking at Toronto Golf Club. It had been billed as a restoration by a prominent member at Toronto who was involved in the project, as well as by construction company TDI and by Hawtree himself on his website. The problem is when you ... Full Story »

There Can Only Be One: Nick Taylor Canada’s Best Amateur?

By Robert Thompson  |   January 4, 2010

On the same day the Golf Journalists Association of Canada voted Matt Hill in as the top Canadian male amateur, the RCGA named Nick Taylor as the country’s top college male player. So who is right? I’d say the RCGA got this one correct. Anyway, here’s the details: For the second year in a row, ... Full Story »

By Robert Thompson  |   December 24, 2009

Let me take this opportunity to thank each of my readers who turned up on the site throughout the year. I always appreciate the comments — positive and negative. I hope each of you have a safe and happy holiday season. Not sure how often I’ll post over the next week or two — but ... Full Story »

Saskatchewan’s DeLaet Poised for PGA Tour Breakthrough

By Robert Thompson  |   December 6, 2009

Graham Delaet has one-and-a-half rounds left at PGA Tour Qualifying School, but given his T2 position heading into the home stretch, he looks set to earn his card. The globe trotting DeLaet has been cool as a cumcumber all year — and has played some terrific golf for 18 months now. He’s make up four Canadians ... Full Story »

More Shake Ups at Angus Glen: Director of Golf Departs

By Robert Thompson  |   December 2, 2009

First it was Kevin Thistle  leaving for Coppinwood. Then it was former Bond Head top dog Nigel Hollidge joining. Then #2 JC Cunningham departed. Lots of change over a couple of months at the normally very stable Angus Glen GC. Then today the latest casualty was Dennis Firth, who was with the course for more ... Full Story »

Is the Tiger gossip a golf story?

By Robert Thompson  |   November 30, 2009

That seems to be the question some are asking. Yesterday, while reading Geoff Shackelford’s site, the question was raised about whether Shackelford should be writing about the topic. I was asked the same question about my initial post regarding Woods’ accident. Reader “Albert” wrote: Is it really necessary to point us to some unsubstantiated story ... Full Story »
