Sometimes the trickiest thing of any golf trip isn’t finding the bottom of the cup, but getting to the course. I arrived in Kelowna on Tuesday morning, excited about the possibility of a return to Sagebrush Golf and Sporting Club, Richard Zokol’s fascinating course outside Merrit, a couple of hours from the airport. Though everything ... read more »

I’ll write more tonight when I have a chance to settle into one place for a couple of nights, but I thought I’d drop a couple of photos of what I’ve seen so far. We started at Sagebrush, playing 14 holes (alas a thunderstorm kept me from all 18) in hazy conditions from the nearby ... read more »

My latest Sympatico column, with some comments from Richard Zokol, about the wonder of Pebble Beach is up at Sympatico:
There’s a lot of debate about who is the hottest star at this week’s U.S. Open.
Is it Phil Mickelson, who could usurp a struggling Tiger Woods as the best golfer in the world? What about Lee ... read more »

So the Canadian Tour has released a study documenting the so-called “pro gap,” that comes after Canada’s top golfers turn professional. The objective seems to be determining why the country doesn’t have more golfers competing at the top levels of the game. Currently there are only four Canadians (three home grown) competing on the PGA ... read more »

On Thursday the RCGA will announce its latest addition(s) to the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. I’m making a guess here, but since I know he’ll be in town on Friday for a talk at the Toronto Golf Show, I’m assuming B.C.’s Richard Zokol will be among those announced as entering the HOF, a year ... read more »

With golf showing for the holidays (and me tiring of writing about Tiger), I thought I’d take the time to reflect on some of my experiences in 2009.
As anyone who reads this blog knows, I have a passion for golf design and great golf courses. This year was a spectacular one for me in that ... read more »

Golf Digest’s Best New in Canada was just announced, with Dick Zokol’s dream, Sagebrush near Merritt, BC, winning the top prize. Nice to see Dick Kirkpatrick’s Ottercreek come in second, so they can say they were the best new in Ontario in 2009! Nonethless, quite an accomplishment for Kirkpatrick on a relatively modest project.
