Let’s start with me, since it is really all about me anyway. My column for Sympatico on great golf coursesmaking for great golf, is now online, along with some videos shot at St. George’s last month.
Word is that Hamilton Golf & CC members are voting on whether to hold the 2012 RBC Canadian Open. Hard ... read more »

A few years ago I made the drive up to the Collingwood region for the inaugural Gretzky Celeb Nationwide Tour event. I interviewed Gretzky, spoke to one of the Nationwide Tour officials, and went home. Turns out most of my peers in the media did the same thing — only a couple actually went up ... read more »

Graham DeLaet is on his way to the PGA Tour, but the coverage of the Canadian’s ascension is spotty at best. My morning Globe, for example, had no reference to DeLaet at all — aside from a bolded name in the stats page.
Ian Hutchison spoke with DeLaet and filed this story for the Toronto Sun, ... read more »

I spoke with Vernon, B.C.’s Chris Baryla a week ago about his comeback from injury and playing his way onto the PGA Tour. The interview followed a terribly uninformative conference call where only three of my peers actually asked questions. Doesn’t leave me with a lot of faith in Canada’s sports media. For what it ... read more »

Vancouver Province writer Kent Gilchrist, last seen interviewing Richard Zokol and bashing the RCGA’s player development program, does an about face given the success of both Vernon’s Chris Baryla, who made the Top 25 on the Nationwide Tour, and Graham DeLaet, who won in South Africa a couple of weeks back
“Could it be that the ... read more »

While the Presidents Cup garners the attention, Vernon’s Chris Baryla is quietly playing his way on to the PGA Tour by leading the Nationwide Tour’s Chattanooga Classic after three rounds. If he wins, it’ll vault him among the Top 25 Nationwide Tour players who immediately gain access to the PGA Tour next year. The money ... read more »

My latest Sympatico column, about the final weeks of the Nationwide Tour and the Canadians involved, is now online. Lorne Rubenstein in the Globe coincidently wrote on a similar topic that can be found here.
Here’s a taste from my column:
While the PGA Tour winds down after the $10-million FedEx Cup, a number of Canadian golfers ... read more »

I was having a conversation with Scott Simmons, executive director at the RCGA today, and we finished with a discussion about how many Canadians could make the cut out of the 15 in the field. Seemed quite possible that up to nine have a good chance — and that seems to be the case after ... read more »

The RCGA announced its full field for the Canadian Open, and it is likely the best in five years — at least since Glen Abbey in 2004 when the Ryder Cup was held in Detroit soon afterwards.
Of note:
There are 13 Canadians in the field. Recent additions included Bryan DeCorso from the Nationwide Tour. No David ... read more »

So John Daly, all garish pants with a thinner waste band, and apparently healthy despite his recent withdrawal on the European Tour, is coming back to the RBC Canadian Open.
That was the word today from the RCGA, along with several other names “ Canadians Graham Delaet, Dustin Risdon, Jon Mills, Chris Baryla and Ian Leggatt. ... read more »
