For years they said they weren’t interested in a return engagement with the Canadian Open, but apparently a mounting clubhouse bill and plans for additional projects at Hamilton Golf and Country Club changed the minds of members. Last night 70% of them voted in favor of hosting the tournament, which should bring the club about ... read more »

… Nope, not Tom Watson, but Bubba Watson. And given his recent win, he’s a strong addition.
Golf Canada and RBC announced several new names that have entered the Canadian Open field. Jim Furyk, twice a winner in Canada, is probably the most notable, and would have a good shot at winning at St. George’s:
Furyk, currently ... read more »

There’s no doubt Mike Weir is respected by his peers — but nonetheless it was interesting to see the Canadian placed on the PGA Tour’s player advisory board. Not that the board has a ton of power….
The PGA TOUR announced today 16 members who will serve on the Player Advisory Council (PAC) for 2010.
The 16-man ... read more »

Sunday singles matches — all 12 of them — have been posted at PGATour.com. Interesting:
Here’s the list with some quick thoughts:
9:10 a.m. – Camilo Villegas INT (0-3-0) vs. Hunter Mahan US (1-1-1)
Villegas has been lousy all week. Americans off to a quick start.
9:21 a.m. – Stewart Cink US (0-3-1) vs. Adam Scott INT (1-3-0)
Surprising that ... read more »

The most recent issue of Golf Magazine published its Top 100 golf courses of the world and Top 100 in the U.S.
Perhaps not surprisingly, there are only two Canadian courses on the list, namely St. Georges in Toronto and Highlands Links in Nova Scotia. The spiral of Highlands Links continues, with the course dropping to ... read more »

Thoughts on day one of the British Open
What the heck is with the television coverage? I watched six hours, and saw recaps over and over, lots of talk of Tigers 1-over round, and too much Tom Watson (if thats possible). I was thrilled to watch Watsons fine round “ but I didnt need to see ... read more »

Random Monday Masters thoughts:
I don’t think CBS was too interested in Kenny Perry, Chad Campbell or Angel Cabrera. Nope. They were more intrigued by the Tiger Woods/Phil Mickelson pairing that started well back of the leaders. Realistically, Woods and Phil were too far back starting the round, and nothing short of a 64 would change ... read more »

I know, I know – Angel Cabrera looks rock solid, but his putting has been so poor since winning the U.S. Open that I wonder how it will hold up today.
And Chad Campbell looked like he was feeling the pressure yesterday — and that wasn’t even Sunday at Augusta. Sure he’s been there before, but ... read more »

The RCGA announced the final field for the Canadian Open, minus the four Monday qualifiers. Interestingly, I’ll be aiding one of those qualifiers, carrying the bag of Alan McLean from London, Ont. on Monday at Rattlesnake.
As for the others, here they are, with my commentary in brackets. Interestingly, it isn’t a bad field, but it ... read more »
