Let’s start with me, since it is really all about me anyway. My column for Sympatico on great golf coursesmaking for great golf, is now online, along with some videos shot at St. George’s last month.
Word is that Hamilton Golf & CC members are voting on whether to hold the 2012 RBC Canadian Open. Hard ... read more »

… Nope, not Tom Watson, but Bubba Watson. And given his recent win, he’s a strong addition.
Golf Canada and RBC announced several new names that have entered the Canadian Open field. Jim Furyk, twice a winner in Canada, is probably the most notable, and would have a good shot at winning at St. George’s:
Furyk, currently ... read more »

I haven’t posted anything on a conference call with Mike Weir last week, largely because I’ve been busy banging out a couple of features as part of my day job. Anyway, I wrote a column about Weir’s 2010 campaign for Sympatico, which will go live later today, and had some quotes left over. I find ... read more »

Vancouver Province writer Kent Gilchrist, last seen interviewing Richard Zokol and bashing the RCGA’s player development program, does an about face given the success of both Vernon’s Chris Baryla, who made the Top 25 on the Nationwide Tour, and Graham DeLaet, who won in South Africa a couple of weeks back
“Could it be that the ... read more »

The RCGA announced its full field for the Canadian Open, and it is likely the best in five years — at least since Glen Abbey in 2004 when the Ryder Cup was held in Detroit soon afterwards.
Of note:
There are 13 Canadians in the field. Recent additions included Bryan DeCorso from the Nationwide Tour. No David ... read more »

It wasn’t that long ago that the CPGA Championship disappeared after merging with the Nationwide Tour and holding the event in Cambridge, Ont. at Whistlebear Golf Club. The reason? Hardly anyone paid any attention. So the event simply folded and the CPGA Championship has still not returned — despite a lot of talk about bringing ... read more »

The Announcement
The RCGA will host a conference call tomorrow to announce a couple of key players for the field in a couple of week’s time — these include Sean O’Hair, #13 in the world and likely the top-ranked player in the field; Hunter Mahan, #39 in the world; Nick Watney, currently #33 in the world, ... read more »

Reading Lorne Rubenstein’s column this morning in the Globe, one would be under the distinct impression that this year’s Q School was a bust — and that Canadian professional golf is in disarray. Is that the case?
There were a great number of Canadians at Q-School this year — several of which (Mills, Hearn) should have ... read more »

Only four Canadians made it through to the final stage of PGA Tour Q School. A couple of them — namely David Hearn and Jon Mills — could have been expected to progress considering their past experience on the PGA Tour. Others, including Alberta’s Dustin Risdon and Huntsville’s Brennan Webb were less likely. As I ... read more »

Today’s National Post has a column focusing on Bryan DeCorso and David Hearn, both on the bubble on the Nationwide Tour. You can find it here.
Here’s a taste:
For most of the year, Nationwide Tour player Bryan DeCorso has looked assured of a spot on the PGA Tour, while David Hearn has spent the summer trying ... read more »
