The Globe’s Lorne Rubenstein raises some interesting possibilities when talking about where the Canadian Open may go after 2011 when it is at Shaughnessy in Vancouver. The piece doesn’t appear to be online yet, but essentially Rubenstein mentions the possibilities for courses beyond 2011. Those listed include Coppinwood, which the RCGA has taken a look ... read more »

So the Canadian Tour has released a study documenting the so-called “pro gap,” that comes after Canada’s top golfers turn professional. The objective seems to be determining why the country doesn’t have more golfers competing at the top levels of the game. Currently there are only four Canadians (three home grown) competing on the PGA ... read more »

I’ve been busy covering a conference this week, but I’m back at the blog now, catching up on some loose ends and actually thinking of digging my clubs out of hibernation this week. I had been planning on heading to FLA for some warm weather, and perhaps take in the ensuing hysteria should Tiger Woods ... read more »

I wonder how many people are even aware that the PGA Tour has a second event going on this week — one in which Canadian Graham DeLaet is sitting in second after two rounds? That’s right — he’s T7 after two rounds of the rain-soaked tournament in Puerto Rico, which has been delayed a day. ... read more »

Interesting news this morning from Royal Bank, which is increasing its investment in golf, including investments in “Team Canada,” the RCGA’s national amateur golf teams, as well as adding support “to the resurgence of Canada’s national amateur golf championships.”
Here’s RBC’s chief brand officer on the annoucement:
We are proud to support the RCGAs vision to drive ... read more »

I haven’t posted anything on a conference call with Mike Weir last week, largely because I’ve been busy banging out a couple of features as part of my day job. Anyway, I wrote a column about Weir’s 2010 campaign for Sympatico, which will go live later today, and had some quotes left over. I find ... read more »

My latest Sympatico column is online. It focused on Canada’s two newest PGA Tour pros, who I spoke with last week. Here’s a sample:
Graham DeLaet and Chris Baryla almost seem nonplussed about entering the world of catered meals, five-star hotels, perfectly manicured golf courses and courtesy cars.
Of course there’s no sign saying “welcome to the ... read more »

I expect to be at my computer most of the next two weeks working on a book project for Eagles Nest Golf Club, but and I also want to catch up on some course reviews, including reviews of Tobacco Road near Pinehurst, NC; Southern Pines (Elks Course), also near Pinehurst, as well as a review of St. ... read more »

Been busy writing about Canadian golf lately, though it is December and it was damned cold taking my garbage to the curb this morning. Anyway, I touched base with Graham DeLaet on Monday afternoon, and here’s the story that came out of it for Sympatico. Interesting to note that all of the country’s rising stars ... read more »
