Jamie Kureluk is hardly a household name, and somehow I think what he did at the RBC Insurance Alberta Open Championship will do little to change that. But it is remarkable. Kureluk, an assistant pro at a club in Calgary and a former Canadian Tour player, had one of the great back nines the game ... read more »

Canandian Tour Commissioner Rick Janes responded to my commentary on the “pro gap” white paper his organization published, taking particular affront to the notion that the Canadian Tour is in trouble. I’ve always had a lot of respect for Janes, and so I publish his remarks unedited.
Here is his response:
This started out to be a ... read more »

I’ve been busy covering a conference this week, but I’m back at the blog now, catching up on some loose ends and actually thinking of digging my clubs out of hibernation this week. I had been planning on heading to FLA for some warm weather, and perhaps take in the ensuing hysteria should Tiger Woods ... read more »

The Golf Journalists Association of Canada, a group of 60 golf media members of which I’m part, today announced its top Canadian players for 2009. Some interesting results:

Vancouver Province writer Kent Gilchrist, last seen interviewing Richard Zokol and bashing the RCGA’s player development program, does an about face given the success of both Vernon’s Chris Baryla, who made the Top 25 on the Nationwide Tour, and Graham DeLaet, who won in South Africa a couple of weeks back
“Could it be that the ... read more »

I was having a conversation with Scott Simmons, executive director at the RCGA today, and we finished with a discussion about how many Canadians could make the cut out of the 15 in the field. Seemed quite possible that up to nine have a good chance — and that seems to be the case after ... read more »

So John Daly, all garish pants with a thinner waste band, and apparently healthy despite his recent withdrawal on the European Tour, is coming back to the RBC Canadian Open.
That was the word today from the RCGA, along with several other names “ Canadians Graham Delaet, Dustin Risdon, Jon Mills, Chris Baryla and Ian Leggatt. ... read more »

It wasn’t that long ago that the CPGA Championship disappeared after merging with the Nationwide Tour and holding the event in Cambridge, Ont. at Whistlebear Golf Club. The reason? Hardly anyone paid any attention. So the event simply folded and the CPGA Championship has still not returned — despite a lot of talk about bringing ... read more »
