Let’s start with me. My notes package on the first round for Sympatico and Reader’s Digest is here. My column featuring on Hunter ... read more »

Interesting and very busy day at a warm RBC Canadian Open. First of all, in response to the blurb I wrote about a speed trap on Islington Ave. that pulled over a van with a player in it traveling to the range, turns out that player was Paul Azinger. And one driver told me Zinger ... read more »

For years they said they weren’t interested in a return engagement with the Canadian Open, but apparently a mounting clubhouse bill and plans for additional projects at Hamilton Golf and Country Club changed the minds of members. Last night 70% of them voted in favor of hosting the tournament, which should bring the club about ... read more »

… Nope, not Tom Watson, but Bubba Watson. And given his recent win, he’s a strong addition.
Golf Canada and RBC announced several new names that have entered the Canadian Open field. Jim Furyk, twice a winner in Canada, is probably the most notable, and would have a good shot at winning at St. George’s:
Furyk, currently ... read more »

He may run the country’s largest bank, but RBC CEO Gord Nixon also has a lot to do with golf in Canada and abroad these days — especially with RBC sponsoring both the Canadian Open and the PGA of America, as well as a number of players, including Fred Couples, Luke Donald, Mike Weir, and ... read more »

My latest Sympatico column went live last week — I just forgot to link to it. Here’s the first couple of paragraphs:
For years the Canadian Open has been considered the ugly stepchild of the PGA Tour
While other events were awarded better dates and in turn had bigger stars turn up, the Canadian Open was saddled ... read more »

First Score referenced it. Then I got wind of an e-mail that went out to members and had someone close to the RBC Canadian Open confirm it, and the Hamilton Spectator wrote about it – and now Lorne Rubenstein has the club saying it is going to a vote.
So despite saying over and over that it didn’t ... read more »

It wasn’t that long ago that everyone was talking about the challenging of Canada’s young golfers. Now Canadian amateurs have won both of the top US college awards this year, and took one of the top two prizes last year as well.
Yesterday Eugene Wong was named as the Nicklaus Award winner, as voted on by NCAA golf ... read more »

There are rumblings within the golf community about RBC Canadian Open tournament director Bill Paul’s remarks about Tiger Woods during the press conference to announce players and charitable donations on Tuesday. When asked about Tiger Woods and his absence from the event (yet again — he hasn’t appeared since 2001), Paul had this to say:
“Having walked ... read more »
