Making the Cut Week 2: The Good Doctor and The Swing Doctor Go to Work

Note: Somewhere over the last year my golf game disappeared. It emerges every so often, but was clearly on life support. Drastic action was needed. Over the course of the summer, I’m heading to the terrific Golf Institute at Bond Head to rebuild my swing, with CPGA Master Professional Bruce McCarrol and my body with ... read more »

Making the Cut Week 1: A Summer of Instruction at The Golf Institute at Bond Head

Golf is a difficult game even for the best in the world. So it should come as no surprise that it is difficult for me, someone who spends an awful lot of time behind a keyboard.
Lately, as I mentioned earlier in a post last week, the game has become even harder than it has been ... read more »

Bond Head’s Complete Package

I spent part of yesterday as a lab mouse. More specifically, I went to the media opening for the new Golf Institute at Bond Head and was “picked” as the individual they would throw through a bunch of testing in front of my peers.
Part one of the press day involved Bond Head’s Nigel Hollidge talking ... read more »

ClubLink Acquires Islesmere in Montreal

I’d heard rumblings for some time, but today it was confirmed — ClubLink Corp. has acquired the noted Montreal private club Islemere, a 27 hole former Canadian Open site.
The press release doesn’t announce a price, but it is interesting for a variety of reasons. First of all, I don’t recall ClubLink ever acquiring an established ... read more »

Massive Lawsuit Against RCGA

A G4G reader sent me this missive about a lawsuit between Laurel Oak Media, which published OG, a magazine I write a column for, and the RCGA. Interesting to see the note about “contending extortion.” All of this over Golf Canada?
The Royal Canadian Golf Association will be brought to trial April 10 over a ... read more »

Making the Trip to Augusta

This story, written for the National Post, is a couple of years old — written following my weekend trip to see Phil Mickelson win the Masters in 2004. Seems like a sensible time to pull out some of the back catalogue of material that I’ve written about the Masters — expect more to come in ... read more »

Five Question for New Cape Breton Golf Developer

In December, a group calling themselves Cape Breton Island Developers Inc. announced they would be developing an ambitious project near Fort Louisbourg. My original post is here. The resort will include lodging, as well as a Nick Faldo-designed golf course, and appeared aimed at the same European market that Humber Valley Resort in Newfoundland has ... read more »

Vijay Singh: Hard working and hated?

There’s been plenty of talk on the Web about Vijay Singh and his onrunning battle with the press following his win at Bay Hill on the weekend.
Most stories pick up the same seemingly ridiculous incident to raise their points — that Singh parked in the media parking despite there being lots of spots for ... read more »
