Spoke for a half hour with Mike Weir this afternoon. He sounded surprisingly upbeat, though I think some of that has to do with finally understanding what has been holding him back. Weir said he saw a doctor in Greensboro last Thursday after shooting 67 who urged him to shut it down for a few ... read more »

Given how well he’s played in the FedEx Cups to date, it is hard to imagine Mike Weir not even getting into the four-week event. But that’s exactly what has happened. And after talking about all the elbow problems he’s been having, Weir announced today that he’s torn a ligament in his elbow — suggesting ... read more »

The wind whistled and Mike Weir went home — again — from yet another golf tournament without playing the weekend. The Ottawa Sun’s Chris Stevenson is just about the only Canadian reporter at the PGA Championship, and he managed to get Weir to offer some real quotes about his struggles and the possibility of changing coaches:
“I can’t ... read more »

The second round of the RBC Canadian Open saw thunderstorms hit the golf course in the early morning, delaying play. But the round was completed nonetheless, with notable names like Paul Casey and yes, Mike Weir, heading home before the weekend starts. Speaking of Weir, he hit one of the worst shots I’ve ever seen ... read more »

The fifth day of the Canadian Open starts with — drum roll please — rain. Play has been delayed until 9 am this morning, and looking at the radar, that might be optimistic.
Let’s start with me. My notes package on the first round for Sympatico and Reader’s Digest is here. My column featuring on Hunter ... read more »

Interesting and very busy day at a warm RBC Canadian Open. First of all, in response to the blurb I wrote about a speed trap on Islington Ave. that pulled over a van with a player in it traveling to the range, turns out that player was Paul Azinger. And one driver told me Zinger ... read more »

Let’s start with this photo, taken on the range at Islington Golf Club yesterday. There are three television commentators in the field this week — and here two of them are having a long conversation with Bubba Watson’s favorite player, Steve Elkington. Any thoughts on what this conversation was about?
My day was stupid long yesterday, ... read more »

What a remarkably sloppy U.S. Open final. Can anyone imagine Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els all being in contention, as well as young bomber Dustin Johnson, all being near the top of the leaderboard and a relatively uninteresting Irish pro taking the title? Seems incongruous to me.
Johnson’s day was shot largely from the ... read more »
