I’ve been hanging on the sidelines as others discussed SCOREGolf’s biennial ratings of Canadian courses. The list is floating around several spots online after the magazine was sent out early by accident. Anyway, if you’re keen on seeing me talk about the list, I’ll be on TSN tomorrow at noon, alongside SCORE editor Bob Weeks ... read more »

Part of a week-long account of my recent trip to the interrior of British Columbia and Alberta.
Course: Golden Golf Club (Bill Newis, Les Furber); Radium Springs (Les Furber); Eagle Ranch (Bill Robinson)
My drive to Radium Springs from Vernon took almost five hours, though I doubt there are many more spectacular road trips anywhere. The mountains ... read more »

Course: The Ridge at Predator Ridge Resort
Designer: Doug Carrick
The business of building new golf courses basically ground to a halt in 2008 and has yet to recover. That’s likely why there’s been such interest in Doug Carrick’s latest – a rebuild of nine ghastly holes at Predator Ridge and the addition of nine new ones. ... read more »

Day two started much more smoothly than day one. Apparently if one is out before the early-bird special, traffic isn’t an issue in Kelowna, though the Tim Hortons may have had the busiest drive-thru in the country.
Anyway, we arrived at Tower Ranch for our 8 am tee time to find the parking lot relatively deserted. ... read more »

Sometimes the trickiest thing of any golf trip isn’t finding the bottom of the cup, but getting to the course. I arrived in Kelowna on Tuesday morning, excited about the possibility of a return to Sagebrush Golf and Sporting Club, Richard Zokol’s fascinating course outside Merrit, a couple of hours from the airport. Though everything ... read more »

My fondness for links courses is well known. I’ve traveled to Scotland four times in the last decade, and flown to Ireland, England and Wales in the same period, all to seek out seaside golf. Golf without trees might seem like a contradiction to some, but to my way of thinking it is the way ... read more »

Course Review: Lookout Point
Architect: Walter Travis (opened in 1922)
Lookout Point is almost entirely unique among Canadian golf courses. From its magnificent topography to the slight greens, the course is at once a throwback as well as a modern day challenge. Either way it is tremendous fun, and one of the largely unheralded gems of the ... read more »

Hawtree’s bunkering is prominent on the par-3 14th.
Course Review: Toronto Golf Club
Architect: H.S. Colt
Renovation architect: Martin Hawtree
I’ve always found Toronto Golf Club to be a fascinating place, ever since I first set foot on it nearly 10 years ago. If ever there was a Canadian club that felt like it hadn’t changed in a century, ... read more »

Course Review: Turnberry GC
Location: Brampton, Ont.
Designer: Doug Carrick and Cam Tyers
First impressions matter, and for most the initial element they’ll notice about Turnberry GC, which opened just over a week ago, is that it is only 3,200 yards long — from the tips. That immediately leads to some other thoughts. “Ugh,” some will say, “it’s ... read more »

I went out to play Turnberry Golf Club last week just before it opened (which I previewed last fall). I’ll write about the course at more length when I get some free time, but I thought I’d post a video of playing the Biarritz hole, the club’s 13th hole, with its wild green. I know ... read more »
