SCOREGolf unveiled their Top 100 Courses in Canada on TSN on Saturday, but don’t be heading to your local club in hope of picking up a copy of the magazine. This year the publication is only available on newsstands — and I’m not sure if the magazine is putting content up online. There are a ... read more »

If you saw SCOREGolf’s unveiling of its Top 100 today, then you might want to see the video follow-up that’s on Score’s website. Managing editor Jason Logan, editor Bob Weeks and myself discuss the highs and lows of the Top 100. See it here.

I’ve been hanging on the sidelines as others discussed SCOREGolf’s biennial ratings of Canadian courses. The list is floating around several spots online after the magazine was sent out early by accident. Anyway, if you’re keen on seeing me talk about the list, I’ll be on TSN tomorrow at noon, alongside SCORE editor Bob Weeks ... read more »

I was meaning to write a teaser for SCOREGolf’s Top 100 courses in Canada issue that hits the streets on Aug. 30, largely because a week ago I taped the television special that will air on TSN on Aug. 29 to accompany the magazine.
Anyway, there was a bit of a mix-up and some of the ... read more »

Course: The Ridge at Predator Ridge Resort
Designer: Doug Carrick
The business of building new golf courses basically ground to a halt in 2008 and has yet to recover. That’s likely why there’s been such interest in Doug Carrick’s latest – a rebuild of nine ghastly holes at Predator Ridge and the addition of nine new ones. ... read more »

My fondness for links courses is well known. I’ve traveled to Scotland four times in the last decade, and flown to Ireland, England and Wales in the same period, all to seek out seaside golf. Golf without trees might seem like a contradiction to some, but to my way of thinking it is the way ... read more »

Sometime last year a French publisher approached me about assisting with an ambitious project it was undertaking. In conjunction with Rolex, the publisher was looking for rankings and descriptions of the Top 1000 courses in the world. In turn they asked if I could do the Canadian reviews and then the written descriptions. The reviews ... read more »

Spent the day out at the terrific St. George’s G&CC this morning, first playing the course as part of a media outing, then spending some time with Mike Weir, defending champ Nathan Green, and finally interviewing RBC CEO Gord Nixon for a magazine story. Yep, been a busy day.
First and foremost, let’s talk about the ... read more »

In celebration of Old Macdonald’s opening at Bandon Dunes in a couple of weeks, I’m running a story I wrote on the course that appeared in last year’s National Post Think Golf magazine. Interesting to note that co-designer Jim Urbina has recently parted ways with Tom Doak:
Sitting in McKee’s Pub just steps from the main ... read more »

While the sun blazed in the sky yesterday, I spent the day indoors, participating in the RCGA’sGolf Canada’s latest seminar series about golf design, a group of events co-sponsored by the Stanley Thompson Society. Rarely, I think, have we seen such a gathering of top names, including Doug Carrick, Graham Cooke, Stephen Johnston, Ian Andrew, ... read more »
