Cabot Links: Opening delayed, but the course is nearly complete.
I was supposed to head to Cabot Links on July 1 for its opening, and had my flight booked, with plans to bring my editor from Sympatico there to shoot some video of the project, which is being developed by Toronto entrepreneur Ben Cowan-Dewar and Bandon Dunes owner Mike Keiser. A slow spring canceled the proposed opening, delaying it by about three weeks. The plan is still to open 10 holes, with the full 18 opening next May or June.
Anyway, as opposed to canceling my trip, I’m still heading to Cabot, and dropping by to see the renovations at Highlands as well. I’m hopeful I’ll still get to play a handful of holes at Cabot – we’ll see based on the weather that looks dodgy at the moment — and see the work that has been done to Highlands in the wake of a giant storm that ravaged the course last year. The government has pumped nearly $1-million into fixing the course this year, so hopefully this will be the restoration that has been so badly needed.
