That’s the rumor circulating — that there’s a 5-year deal in the works to bring the LPGA to Grey Silo, the public golf course in Waterloo.
Seems a Toronto organization called “Sports Properties International” have been trying to nail this down for more than a year, and apparently, according to my sources, a deal looks to be in place and will be announced soon.
Interestingly, it seems like this concept has been in the works for a while (see this letter from Waterloo’s mayor). Apparently the stumbling block has been finding a sponsor — not surprising.
Not sure how this makes sense — I would have thought one LPGA event in Canada was enough — considering the Canadian Women’s Open has struggled to find a sponor in past years.
Update: here’s the official word from Sports Properties International -
Thanks for your inquiry.
A sponsor has been found and will be announced along with all the details on Tuesday June 28th 4:30 pm in Waterloo at the Waterloo Inn.

This will be great for the people of Waterloo and Area, the LPGA and for Canada. Really excited to see this happen. I was a volunteer when the event was held at the Hnt Club in London. These ladies can play golf.
Grey Silo will be a great test.
