Master of all he surveys: Richard Zokol at Sagebrush in BC. Next stop Canadian Golf Hall of Fame?
On Thursday the RCGA will announce its latest addition(s) to the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. I’m making a guess here, but since I know he’ll be in town on Friday for a talk at the Toronto Golf Show, I’m assuming B.C.’s Richard Zokol will be among those announced as entering the HOF, a year after the strange induction of Mike Weir. Richard should be in the HOF, especially now that his playing career seems behind him. Captain of the NCAA-winning team while at BYU, a Canadian amateur champ with five professional wins, and likely the most consecutive appearances at the Canadian Open, Zokol is among the best golfers the country has ever produced. He also opened an excellent golf course in 2009, the terrific Sagebrush Golf and Sporting Club.
The only surprise would be if Zokol is not given a spot on Thursday — he deserves to be there.

I would love to see this. Mr. Zokol is first class all the way, which is even evidenced in his comments at this board. He has always been willing to help the cause of Canadian golf, in addition to his playing accomplishments.
He also hit it out of the park up at Merritt.
He’d get my vote if I had one!

This is long overdue so I hope your instincts are right, Rob.
Tighthead nailed it: Dick has done so much for Canadian golf and has always been willing to donate his time for the betterment of the game both at the developmental and professional levels.

I hope this happens. I met Richard in 1992 at the TPC of Connecticut while attending the Canon GHO. I was wandering around the clubhouse and went out the wrong door, ending up in a players only walkway through the parking lot. Richard and his caddy were right there. I went over and introduced myself, saying I was from Canada. He asked where, and when I told him Halifax, he started talking about his visits to the city and did I know Kelly Burnett, the pro at Ashburn? I did, and he asked me to pass along his best wishes.
What a personable guy.
