I’m on holidays — hanging out in Mexico — but on Friday filed a column for Sympatico on the Tiger Woods’ speech. I’ve received a bunch of e-mail on it — perhaps I’ll post that later. Anyway, while I head back to the beach, here’s a taste:
Fascinating. Today the world watched while a Tiger Woods — perhaps the best golfer of all-time — said he had cheated on his wife, adding he’d felt entitled and lived without integrity.
He didn’t cry, he didn’t breakdown, but he did seem contrite. More than anything he appeared worn out.
That’s not surprising. For 85 days since his car accident in November outside his home in a ritzy gated estate in Orlando, Florida, Woods has largely dodged the paparazzi. He’s also endured endless speculation about what actually happened, as well as a steady stream of women who claimed to have engaged in tawdry affairs with the biggest star in sports. Gossip was rampant, leading to wild rumors. Perhaps Woods’ wife hit him with a golf club? Did he escape to Arizona for plastic surgery? When would the next porn star/waitress/party girl come out to say she’d hooked up with the golfer? Did he take performance-enhancing drugs handed out by a Canadian doctor?
As the rumors swirled, Woods was silent and out of sight. It was the great disappearing act “ until now. Today he appeared at the headquarters of the PGA Tour in Ponte Vedra, Fla., giving a prepared speech that acted as his apology to his wife, sports fans, family and friends. Without providing many details, he owned up to what he’d done, much of which has captured the headlines of tabloids and Internet gossip sites. He did not take any questions.
“I have let you down,” Woods said. “And I have let down my fans. For many of you, especially my friends, my behavior has been a personal disappointment. To those of you who work for me, I have let you down personally and professionally.”

As for myself I am glad to have had the likes of Tiger playing the sport of Golf at such a high standard.I do not believe in trying to change him, I would much rather him to be himself we should be careful who we wish for because we may not like who show’s up next.
