Even Pat Burns Knows the Truth About Tiger

Or at least that’s what he told a Montreal radio station. Apparently a “friend” of Burns, the former Maple Leafs coach, told him the “true” inside story of Tiger Woods and Burns relayed that during a radio interview. Oh, and my cousin’s roommate from college has a buddy who knows someone in Florida who happens to live a block away from a guy who is on the FHP, and he knows not only where Tiger is, but what positions he likes best.

Come on.

What’s worse is the Canadian Press and others treating this like a real story. Doesn’t a news organization have editors who determine when something is a real news story and not just some former NHL coach relaying something that came into his in-box that day (and about a week after everyone else saw it)?

MONTREAL ” Showing the appetite for details of Tiger Woods’ meltdown knows no bounds, former NHL coach Pat Burns has offered his take on the night the world’s best golfer crashed his SUV just outside his Florida home.

During his daily interview with CKAC Sports radio in Montreal on Tuesday, Burns says he was told by police acquaintances in Florida that Woods’ wife Elin Nordegren hit her husband with a golf club – leaving Woods with a deep cut on the cheek and two missing front teeth – after reading texts from another woman on his cellphone.

Burns said it was at that point that Woods fled for his car, with his wife in pursuit.

Burns, a former police officer and hockey coach who lives in Florida, says sources he’s close to within the Florida Highway Patrol gave him an account of what they said transpired during the U.S. Thanksgiving weekend.

CP goes on to say Burns’ account is very similar to the viral e-mail circulating around the web, the same one that caught former Atlanta newspaper columnist Furman Bisher just after Christmas.

This is pathetic. My mother has an opinion on Tiger’s disappearance as well — does that make it valid?
