Taping the Score Top 100 Show

On Sunday at 11 am on TSN, ScoreGolf’s Top 100 television program will air.

Score Editor Bob Weeks asked Globe columnist Lorne Rubenstein and myself to appear on the program to run through a series of discussions about the courses, the ratings, issues relating to the golf course business and our favourites on the list.

With that I took a ride down to Glen Abbey to shoot the program. The set was the back tee deck of the third hole at Glen Abbey, which is an interesting place to shoot a television program, especially as golf carts, golfers, and even a rain storm become part of the process. Given the length of the shoot, I assume the program is an hour, but I could be wrong.

The producer of the show joked that Lorne and I had to be sequestered following the program given our inside knowledge of the Top 100 list. Since my wife wouldn’t have been keen on that, I simply promised not to give out any information. That said, it is an interesting list, quite different from past lists in the lower realms, while the usual suspects are all there in the upper reaches.

The program will also discuss Best New in Canada. Score now presents this award each year, and it is part of th show as well. Tobiano, Wyndance, Tarandowah, Talking Rock and a couple of others were up for this award this year. I am very fond of Tobiano, though there are some that have been critical of it, and think Tarandowah is an understated gem.

Weeks says he’s always flooded with emails following the Top 100 list. Some people think it should only include public courses, while others think these lists make little sense. I’ll say it takes a lot of time for each panelist to rank more than 100 courses, and I put hours into my list this year.

After the show on Sunday, we’ll let the debates begin.
