Don’t agree with you on this one Robert, especially after yesterday’s round. There is no way Player should pick Weir over Ames. Ames is as much a Canadian as anyone (not that you have suggested that, but others have alluded to it) & deserves it over Weir based on one thing….performance. If you are a team captain in any sport…that it the first thing you look for.
Ames is the logical choice.
Ames is a rookie…Weir is a proven winner in President’s Cup competition. That counts for a lot. Weir’s recent improved play, except for the PGA, gives him an edge. Ames has not closed the deal on a major, Weir has. Lots of intangibles favour Weir. An argument could be made to pick both.
