Going for the Green

Robert Thompson's comments, criticism and opinion on the world of golf.

Conversations at the Golf Show

The Toronto Golf Show begins today, but there was a kick off party last night to promote PEI’s Legends of Golf, which Mike Weir will appear at this year. Lots of talk and gossip among those at the party:

- ClubLink’s Chuck Lormier joking on the now bankrupt Mystic Golf Club: “Oh sure, the way to promote a course is to aim it at the total of 30,000 golfers in Ontario who are low handicaps,” he joked slyly. I asked whether CL would be pursuing Mystic and he said ClubLink is “always looking.”

- According to one at the party, PEI’s announcement that it would sell its government-owned golf courses, including Crowbush, was just politically motivated and likely won’t happen.

- IMG’s Brad Pelletier said people are going to be excited when they hear the names of the remaining golfers at the Telus Skins Game and The Legends of Golf. Pelletier insists the events will “tell stories,” and that the tales being told will be compelling and interesting to golf fans. Sounds like he’s got another interesting concept up his sleeve after the success he had at Banff last year.

Hmmm. I know of a young Score sales rep who might opine so, but as you know RT, I also agree with him on Hamilton over St. Geroge’s. A debate to be continued to be sure …
