Finding the fairways: A writer at the Dallas Morning News blogs about why Bubba Watson didn’t make the grade at the Nelson this week. Turns out his caddie didn’t make it to the course on time for his tee time … A handful of LPGA stars, including Natalie Gulbis,
Morgan Pressel, and Juli Inkster will be in London, Ont. on Monday to play the Hunt Club for a charity event. The Hunt will host the LPGA’s Canadian stop this year. No word on what the charity element is, but it is amazing to see how many top players the LPGA and sponsor CN can get out to London for what is largely a non-event … I wonder if the LPGA event in London will have much of the new marketing approach the tour is using? Apparently to be the “It” girl on the LPGA under new commisioner Carolyn Bivens, you need the complete package, according to Daily Press reporter Daryl Slater. Pressel is a big fan of the approach: “It’s something the tour needs,” Pressel said. “There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s only gonna help.” … Believe it or not, but one industry insider tells me that many courses in Ontario were in drought conditions until the rain that came today … U.K. writer John Huggan documents Donald Trump’s arrival in Aberdeen, and the hype that already surrounds his potential new course. Can you say ‘waterfall?’ …. Anyone notice Lori Kane sits 71st on the LPGA’s money list, despite all the talk about this being her comeback year? … A story about the now departed 84 Lumber, which is in its last year of sponsorship on the PGA Tour, says the company expected to have to put up $100-million for six years. How does this jive with the RCGA’s contention that Bell was only putting up $5-million per year?
