CanTour Shake Up: Pritchard Joins

PritchardInteresting news out of the Canadian Tour yesterday, with Ontario PGA associate director Scott Pritchard jumping ship for the Canadian Tour. He becomes the director of business development for the Canadian Tour:

Scott joins the Canadian Tour after eight years of service with the Canadian PGA and most recently the Ontario PGA where he served as Associate Director.

“Scott Pritchard will be a valuable addition to our team and brings excellent credentials in marketing, sales and communications,” said Canadian Tour commissioner Rick Janes. “He will become a voice for the Tour with the national media and a major contributor to our efforts in sponsorship sales and tournament development.”

The Canadian Tour is down to eight events, having recently lost the Jane Rogers event that had run in Mississauga and Milton. A Montreal event disappeared last year when it was announced a sports marketing group would bring in a Champions Tour event to the city. Needless to say, Pritchard, has his work cut out for him, especially since release says he’ll also deal with media — and the Canadian Tour hasn’t had someone running media for two years now.

I’ve gotten to know Pritchard over the past few years — he’s capable and smart. He’ll need to be — he has a big job in front of him in a sports sponsorship market that has remained tight following the economic slowdown of 2008.

Pritchard wasn’t the only change:

We are also announcing this week the addition of Heather Curran to our staff as Manager, Player Relations & Tournament Affairs. Heather is joining us from the European Ladies Tour and arrives at the end of the month. Heather is an accomplished event marketer and has held positions with Fairmont Hotels in St. Andrews, Scotland and with the Dunhill Links Championship, also at St. Andrews.

I am also pleased to announce the promotion of Susan Blenkinsop to the position of Controller effective immediately. Susan has been a valauble addition to our staff where she has made significant contributions to our financial affairs.

And finally, I am pleased to announce that Reegan Price will be promoted to Director, Tournament & Business Affairs reporting to the Commissioner. Reegan will take more of a lead role in tournament operations and sponsor releations in the field.
